I secretly recorded this promotion - and this one may just be my most favourite ever!
Jessica was my first proper hire at MEDDICC. Eloise and Adan joined the team before Jessica but, they’re family. Jessica was the first hire from a job vacancy we published. In her final interview she asked what the potential for her in the role was… The easy answer was “CMO”.
Talk is cheap and we live in a world where titles are free. So, while I did say that the opportunity for Jessie was CMO, I made it clear it wouldn’t be an easy destination to get to. She joined as marketing manager. And crushed it. In Walkies first year she helped us re-brand, launch a new website, launch MEDDICON, launch new messaging, launch a SaaS platform, hire a team and build an internal media agency that is now 11 people strong and crushing it!
So she deserved her promotion to Head of Media (marketing falls under our Media function). Then we built a development plan to focus on the growth to CMO… And well… she crushed that, too. In our July leadership off-site it became clear to me that Walkies wasn’t only a critical part of our media leadership, but the company as well.
I decided there and then it was time. Time to fulfil the BHAG she had set for herself a year earlier of becoming CMO.
And urrr, because I’m a bit of a nerd for trying to find interesting content I recorded the 1:1 where I broke the news to her. AND she didn’t understand what was happening which led to a hilariously awkward moment.
