1. What is MEDDIC?

MEDDIC is a B2B sales qualification framework that helps sellers judge whether a deal is real, winnable and worth their time. The letters stand for Metrics, Economic Buyer, Decision Criteria, Decision Process, Identify the Pain and Champion. Sales teams use MEDDIC to spot gaps in a deal early, forecast more accurately and focus on opportunities they can win.

2. What is MEDDPICC and how is it different from MEDDIC?

MEDDPICC is an expanded version of MEDDIC that adds two elements. Paper Process covers how a deal actually gets signed, through legal, procurement and security. Competition covers who or what else the buyer is considering, including doing nothing. How we use MEDDPICC also evolves  Identify the Pain into Implicate the Pain, making sure your customer doesn’t just know about the pain, but how they are affected by it. MEDDICC recommends MEDDPICC for complex B2B deals, because late-stage paperwork and competitors are two of the most common reasons deals slip.

3. What's the difference between MEDDIC, MEDDPICC and MEDDICC?

MEDDIC is the original sales qualification framework, and MEDDPICC is an expanded version that adds Paper Process and Competition. MEDDICC, spelled with two Cs, is a company. It's the leading authority on the MEDDIC methodology, founded by Andy Whyte, and it helps B2B sales teams learn, apply and embed MEDDPICC through training, professional services and software.

4. Who created MEDDIC?

MEDDIC was developed in the 1990s at PTC (Parametric Technology Corporation), commonly credited to Dick Dunkel and Jack Napoli, under the leadership of John McMahon. PTC used it to take its sales org from $0 to $1 billion in ten years. You can read more about the origins of MEDDIC here. Andy Whyte, founder of MEDDICC, later wrote MEDDICC: The ultimate guide to staying one step ahead in the complex sale in 2020, which helped bring the methodology to a new generation of B2B sellers.

5. Who is MEDDICC for?

MEDDICC works with B2B sales organizations of every size, from individual sellers building their skills to global sales teams of thousands. MEDDPICC initiatives are typically led by CROs, VPs of Sales, RevOps leaders and Enablement leaders. MEDDICC is strongest in tech and tech-enabled companies, but the methodology works in any complex B2B sale, including professional services.

6. How does MEDDICC help sales teams win more deals?

MEDDICC helps teams win more deals by making MEDDPICC part of how they sell every day, not a one-off training. It works across three pillars:

  • Adaptive Enablement: on-demand learning with certification, playbooks, short-form video and live virtual sessions.

  • Applied Execution: professional services that tailor MEDDPICC to your sales process and build it into your systems.

  • Actionable Insights: software that records calls, scores deals against MEDDPICC, and surfaces risks and next best actions.

7. Does MEDDICC offer MEDDPICC training and certification?

Yes. MEDDICC offers MEDDPICC training for individual sellers and whole teams, including on-demand courses, live virtual sessions and the MEDDPICC Masterclass. Learners who complete the program earn a MEDDPICC certification they can share on LinkedIn. Over 25,000 sellers have achieved MEDDPICC certification with MEDDICC. See programs.

8. How do I get my sales team to actually use MEDDPICC?

MEDDPICC sticks when it's built into the tools and meetings reps already use, instead of being taught once and forgotten. MEDDICC's professional services team tailors MEDDPICC to your sales process and builds it into your CRM, deal reviews and forecast calls. It also trains managers to coach against it, so the framework becomes the team's shared language for every deal.

9. How is MEDDPICC different from BANT, SPICED and Command of the Message?

  • BANT: (Budget, Authority, Need, Timeline) is a quick early-stage check suited to simpler, transactional sales.

  • SPICED: from Winning by Design, stands for Situation, Pain, Impact, Critical Event and Decision. It focuses on customer impact and is popular in SaaS.

  • Command of the Message: from Force Management, is a value-messaging framework.

  • MEDDPICC: is a qualification framework built for complex B2B deals with several stakeholders, where knowing who decides, how, and against what criteria decides the outcome. Many teams pair MEDDPICC with a discovery or messaging framework.

10. How much does MEDDICC training cost?

MEDDICC plans start at $499 per year for the MEDDPICC Masterclass, with Individual and Small Team (2-10) Membership at $899 per year. Teams of 11+ get tailored pricing. All plans are annual, with no monthly option and no hidden fees. See all plans.
