MEDMEN: Getting Out of the Stands at SKO

CONTENTS

An SKO is one of the biggest investments a company makes. They have the potential to be hugely impactful, but only when the individuals attending show up with the right attitude.

SKO attendees getting out of the stands (and out of the simple “observer” mindset) is the only way what is talked about at SKO will have a material influence on everyone’s behavior and the company’s performance.

However, simply asking attendees to care about the SKO won’t work. The leadership team and the people organizing the SKO need to make it an event where people will want to put the time and effort into getting most from it.

To do that, ahead of time it should be clear what the purpose of the SKO is; what people should walk away with. If there is no clear goal for the SKO, people will end up doing stuff just to do it.

What people put in energy-wise, they will get out in terms of value. Those who attend workshops, for example, will reap the intended benefits if they put the effort in, rather than simply sitting back, regretting the extra time spent at the bar the night before.

It’s a shared responsibility between the attendees and the organizers; if the company has done a good job in getting the SKO attendees bought into the overarching mission and the goal for the SKO, then people will be out of the stands and actively participating.
